Script

The first thing you should look for is the directory script. There are few scripts for directories we would like to mention here.

PHPLD

PHPLD is probably the most popular directory script among all others, also very popular among DP forum members. The script is very helpful to maintain links. The mods for PHPLD to support various features are excellent.

eSyndiCat

eSyndicat free version may be better than phpld free version because it has more features built in. But by adding mods on phpld v2, you can start one as good as eSyndiCat. The built in free template probably is the only advantage over phpld v2.

IndexScript

Its simplicity is very attractive. The submission page is simpler and easy for submitter to use. Not as popular as the two above, but many directories are built with this script also.

Site Sift Listings

Another popular directory script from Site Sift. Its simplicity is good for webmasters who are new to directory industry. No template comes with the script. Smart meta tags and Paypal with Instant Payment Notification features are very nice.

PHPLynx

This new directory script has many features built in. The template looks good also. The navigation to submit page seems a little confusing, but the Anti-Bot-Question on submission page is a great feature.

PHPMyDirectory

One of the most complete directory scripts. Expensive, but the features are excellent. Advanced search functions and portal-looking template is very professional. Great script for business directories.
